BWT62 - Liquid Music Ensemble - Dangerous Bone

front cover (photo courtesy of Tom Barton)

In the dawn of 1970, there was a rising rock band fronted by a promising young vocalist named Jiggs Elko. He was a wild man on stage, often swinging from the rafters during his bandmates' guitar solos and diving onto the crowd without notice. His antics began to spread and the group got invited to open for a major touring group.

Jiggs wanted their first stadium performance to set a new bar for showmanship. Without alerting his bandmates or management of his intentions, he arranged to have a live chicken brought on stage during their final number, "Savage Ways," so that he could bite off it's head in a blaze of blood and glory.

They played their best concert to date and everything was going according to Jiggs' plan. After the final chorus of "Savage Ways" a roadie ushered a blanketed cage out to the front man. The crescendo-ing guitar notes provided an ever increasing intensity, while Jiggs reached into the cage to pull forth his prey.  The audience released a synchronized gasp as he thrust the feathered creature over his head. The chicken poked it's head around, beak taped shut, eyes bulging with fright.

As the high note struck, the bird's comb disappeared into Jiggs' open mouth. An eruption of shrieks and cheers swelled over the drum beat. Teeth clamped over feathers and blood began to trickle down his chin. It was at that moment that Jiggs learned about the dangerous bone. An unevolved relic passed down from chicken to chicken, dating far back into prehistoric times. A revengeful weapon, this dangerous bone is razor sharp and strikes back at those who would do harm to chicken-kind.

Jiggs' victim expired in his hands, but it struck one final blow. The dangerous bone leapt forth and sliced clean through his tongue. He collapsed in a pool of blood next to the twitching body of the bird as the lights dimmed to engulf the stadium in darkness. The audience roared for an encore, unaware that Jiggs had sung his final song.

This Liquid Music Ensemble CD is a live recording from the Dreamland Theater of a performance given as an ode to the sad demise of rock legend Jiggs Elko.
